i stayed at barcelo playa tambor and also barcelo playa langosta. barcelo playa tambor was very family oriented but equipment such as zip cording, scuba diving are all extra where you have to pay a for a tour to do that. there are other resorts like papagayo and riu guanacaste but they seemed very expensive and far away.

I don’t reckon you will be able to find a resort like that in Costa Rica, one that includes all those activities.

All places that I know of have a hotel, pool, and restaurant. The other activities have to be arranged (and paid for separately). The hotel staff will be pleased to book them for you (since they get a commission for doing so). You will be picked up in the morning taken to the activity and returned in the afternoon or evening. Zip-lining (aka Canopy tour) is the most fun.

One place that we have stayed at a few times is Flamingo Beach Resort. It’s on the Pacific coast, about 30 minutes north of Tamarindo.

The place in Tambor that the first poster mentioned is supposed to be really nice. Montezuma is also a fantastic place for beaches and water activities. But I don’t know if they have any resort type of places, it’s not as touristy as the others.

I would highly recommend the Hilton Papagayo, which is about 30 minutes from the Liberia airport. They have at least a half a dozen activities a day from beach walks, areobics, bike rides, nighttime walks, spanish classes and dancing classes. These activities are free and the resort is not all inclusive. The have fantastic small cottages and a gorgeous place.
