There is NO culture in Punta Cana! It was built for all inclusives and there is NO local life there fleeting of an hour drive!

Feature resorts are everywhere and is only a question of how much you want to pay!

Excursions are for quitters who don’t want to explore on their own or listen to the people at the All Inclusives who tell you how perilous it is outside the resort so they can sell you overpriced tours at a 50% commission:)

Get out on your own and you will experience the DR! I am a gringo living here for 8 years although I have a Dominican Passport as well as a US one and do what I want when I want and never have had a problem!

Sosua/Cabarete are happening towns! Sosua if you are a single guy and Cabarete if you are a couple or a single woman is where you should go!

Puerto Plata Airport is really in Sosua and same distance to Cabarete as to Puerto Plata!

Scuba out of Sosua with North Coast Diving for the best selection of dives and the best run operation on the North Coast imho!

Check out Luperon-Punta Rucia for day trips and for a two day trip check out Las Terenas and Samana! You won’t regret my advice and if you have any questions email me and I would be pleased to answer them!

Don’t stay in a AI except you want to just hang out at the pool and eat and drink the rest of the time!

    Have a fun time!

    Hi!,
1>Punta Cana/Bavaro = Big tourist area, with lot of big Hotels /Resorts, good beaches; named the “Golden Jail Hotels” because outside there is… nothing. The next town
    is 29 miles away!
2>Puerto Plata = “The Bride of the Atlantic” with the town at 10 min by public bus (1/3 us$ p.p.)200.000 souls, Isabella de Torre (cablecar) Museo de l’Ambar, Ocean World (Dolphins),
and so many equipment to do! I as a VIP tour Operator here I have more than 30 different excursions! The Hotels are plenty from 2* to 5+* all depending your go and wallet.
I advise to take excellent info before booking.
I hope this helped a bit. Take pleasure in your stay and bye bye!
